As you might remember, I was going to host an Art Exhibition of my work this time last year, but had to postpone it last minute, when I was selected to go to the magical Paris (yay!!!) for a once in a lifetime opportunity, completing an art residency for three months at the Cité Internationale des Arts. It ended on a high note when I had my exhibition at Café des Arts end of January this year, which was not only a great start to my year, but also a highlight in my art career.
Exactly a year later, and I was able to finally share my works with you!!! The exhibition took place at my house on 14 November 2020, which is a fitting venue, since it was such a personal journey for me to get to this point where I could actually share my art with the world. I also gave a demonstration of my lino-cut process in my studio, and everybody seemed to have enjoyed working my printing press! 😉

The artworks for this exhibition is a collection of over 130 pieces I have done in various mediums, and is the result of inspiration I draw from my daily experiences through love, life and my travels, over the past two years (although it feels like yesterday), since my art journey has started.
Through my art I explore the balance between beauty and ugliness, pain and growth, guilt and pride, and how it influences us. I investigate characteristics that shape our personal and social identity, and question stereotypes and conventional thinking through self exploration, culture and gender within my Afrikaans heritage, in a contemporary setting.
Thank you so much for everyone who took the time to come and view my artwork, share a glass of champagne, and escaped for a moment from our busy lives to relax and have some fun. A special thank you to those of you who came from far – I was especially humbled and grateful to see such incredible support from all over. To Marisma and Cor who tirelessly helped me organise everything, I really appreciate your unconditional help and support throughout this journey.
