As Happy as a Pig in Palestine!

Yes, I know…. as if I didn’t already have enough hay on my fork, I have taken up sculpting for the first time in my life, and what a game changer this was for me!!! Under the expert tutoring of Joyce Carreira, a whole new world has opened up for me. I have always had an affinity for bronze sculptures, and I took to this like a fish to water.

I am having so much fun doing this, and it really feels like a natural extension of what i am already doing. I have decided to start off small, and use familiar images, so what better theme than to cast my origami bunnies (from my “Postcards from Paris”-series), as well as my cute little pigs (from my “Why don’t Pigs fly?” series).

It all starts by moulding and carving my subjects with potters clay. Once I am happy with the finishes, it gets send off to become a wax figure. During the next stage, I refine the wax artwork and make sure everything is perfect for the final stage: casting it in bronze. Even then it is not completed! The wings need to welded on, and it has to be finished off with a patina, colouring the bronze for final presentation. They will be cast in a series of 6 each, but the progress is quite tedious, so it may take a while. Especially with the lock-down back lock, the casting process is a bit slower than usual.

I can not wait to show you the finished products! Who am I kidding… I can not wait to see it myself! Let’s hold thumbs that it turns out the way I was hoping the final product would look like xxx
