Artwork: Why don’t Pigs fly? – Tenacity
“Why don’t Pigs fly” is just a quirky little series I’m working on, in between two other big projects. Mostly for my own amusement, and I have to say, I truly enjoy it! So how did this idea start? Well, I was born in 1971, and 2019 is the Year of the Pig, and therefore it was quite literally my Year! I have been so abundantly blessed this past year, that I wanted to commemorate it with a very personal series. Every pig is finding a different way to make it possible for them to fly. Like the pigs, I also try to find ways to fly despite the obvious obstacles we face. They are each carved on lino, printed on my press and then hand painted with acrylic ink to complete them. I made references in the embossing to the Chinese calendar origin, which serves as decoration.
