Hand printed and painted on Fabriano etching paper.
Quo Vadis ~ (ˈkwəʊ ˈvɑːdɪs) Where are you going?
In this expanding series, I am questioning a lot of political, religious and cultural traditions. I have taken public sculptures from all over the world as a basis to make it universal, and using the female figure as a symbol of both freedom and captivity.
I would like to let the viewer re-assess their lives, values and where they are going, from an objective point of view – both globally and introspectively.
On another level it is also whimsical and hopeful, and masks the deeper meaning, which is also what I want my art to do: transcend above this all, and just bring joy to the viewer.
This series became particularly important for me to do, after we had the opportunity to take a “universal pause” during this global pandemic, reassessing and redirecting our lives.
They are all hand carved linocuts, printed, embossed and hand- coloured originals.
