“A Million Little Things” is a collection of origami-shaped bunnies, each piece meticulously cut from countless pieces of paper to represent the unique individual journeys we embark upon, influenced by moments, emotions, and experiences, mirroring the complexity of our lives.
I used my origami bunny “Lapine” the flaneuse, as main character and inspiration. Lapine was born in Paris, where I started my art journey exactly five years ago and has since featured in various of my artworks. She serves as both my avatar and muse.
The images were taken from my ink sketches of my “Postcards from Paris“- series. For me, Paris symbolizes an exotic location of escape, and a rich source of influences and inspiration. This trinity of energy (me, Lapine and Paris), inspire me to look at things from an unfamiliar perspective, which can be seen as a common thread through my work.
The origami is metaphorically used, where each paper fold that eventually shapes the bunny represents the choices we make that shape our lives. By showcasing the delicate nature of the paper used to create these figurines, the artworks emphasize the ephemeral nature, fragility and beauty of life.
Each piece of paper is arranged with precision in various ways to form patterns and shapes, creating a paper map. The complex pathways depicted in the maps, symbolize the choices we make and the paths they lead us down. It highlights the inter-connectedness of our experiences, and the universal nature of human choices.
The repetitive process of cutting and pasting these shapes, creates a sense of harmony and order amidst the chaos of everyday life. It invites the viewer to contemplate and appreciate the profound impact of seemingly insignificant moments that define our existence.
Rather than focusing on grand gestures or monumental events, this series delves into the beauty and power of the everyday. It is through celebrating the accumulation of these million little things – the quiet joys, the fleeting moments of connection, shared experiences and the small victories – that I find my purpose and happiness.
It urges us to slow down, pay attention, and appreciate the richness of our lives, one tiny moment at a time. Each moment is a precious gift.
As I continue to explore the themes of destiny, free-will and growth, I also delve into the moments that make life worthwhile and fill us with hope, faith, and resolve.
It is with great excitement that I share this series, inviting you to join me on a reflective journey through the intricate maize of our lives.
